the UNDERUSEDs
E5
How could the underused public buildings be turned into a property of Mom’s Co-op?
When occupying large under-used public buildings, it is first necessary to break up the large spaces to a habitable scale. Again the addition and combination of timber frame structural systems are used to create different living clusters.
Mothers living on the ground floor have the opportunity to invest in the operation of the ground floor market. Freshly bought fruit and vegetables in the morning can be used as food for the family, while an extra bento made while cooking can be sold directly at the market.
The weighing column is retained and part of the wall is removed to make the space more flexible. The hole in the floor slab increases the connection and interaction between the ground floor commercial space and the ground floor residential space.
